Factors for the flow to global
The Cold War was finally over with the fall of the USSR, and the Western and Eastern Blocks could work together.
No with modern technology no distance was too far to communicate or move between.

  • ​POPULATION
    • Population has reached over 7 billion, while at the end of the agricultural age it was only at 1 billion. Within the threshold decades the population increased over two billion.
    • The world is much more integrated. It is extremely easy to communicate with some across the globe instantly.
    • Population density has increased, as now people live in cities and large urban areas instead of villages.
    • Because of this population increase, the word has since felt the consequences such as over crowding and food shortages.
  • ECONOMICS
    • Economic factors have constantly caused large change within the world first, as people will follow with economic changes.
    • The global economic playing field has been leveled as now there is a global economy. Products can be made anywhere and sent anywhere.
    • Globally tens of millions of people are entering the middle class for the first time each year.
    • Countries are no longer considered 3rd-world, as they are now considered developing because of their new economic developments
    • Standards of living have dramatically rose over the past few decades in almost every region of the world.
  • CULTURE AND POLITICS
    • Government has turned into the slowest moving part of society. Now the economy and the general public's opinions will change, and then the government will follow.
    • Governments are in for revitalization, especially in the US as the government is a slow old entity.
    • As a global economy has been created, there is a possibility for a global government also.
    • The United Nations has been more influential, but it is still not a form of international government that is likely to exist at some point, but nationality ties resist this from happening.
    • Cultures are starting to amalgamate faster than every. Various groups and cultures have combined and altered themselves.

Flow to the Individual


​The End of Alienation
  • People all over the world are allowing themselves to define their life, personality and interests.
  • The individual now has unlimited choice; the ability to choose how they want to live their life.
  • And rather than being isolated by society, due to global connectivity, the individual has the ability to connect to any group in other areas who has similar lifestyle choices or interests.

The Micro Micro
  • Society has been restructured to expand to the largest and smallest economic units; Macro-macro (Flow to Global) and micro-micro (Flow to individual).
  • Society is now more focused around what one does rather than who or what someone belongs to or works for.
  • Mass media has also shifted between direct media to corporations to individuals being the mass media.
  • “ a transfer of power in our society from large groups to each person”
  • Power is spreading to individuals due to the change in society
  • “The flow to the Individual can be traced to the movement from a production economy that was hierarchical to a knowledge and info.- based economy that is flat and networked.”
  • “ in today’s global marketplace, tens of millions of people have moved from being employees to being independent contractors.”
  • High- speed connectivity and to wireless technologies allows to have access everywhere.
  • During the Threshold Decades, people often felt ashamed that they worked from home, in the Shift Age we are proud to work at home.
  • “In the 1970s, in the United States, the three broadcast were programmed by three people sitting in offices in Manhattan, just blocks apart from each other.”

3. Increasing Electronic Connectedness

The world as we know it is constantly changing. Everything we see around us most likely won't be the same looking back on it a year from now. One product that has made a drastic increase is the cellphone. The cellphone was developed in 1983 by Motorola and eventually became the factor that would allow the world to connect in a totally different way. Distance was no longer a factor that would limit people to communicate globally. Another key invention that allowed for a more connected lifestyle is the internet. Many forms of social media have developed from the internet which are a MAJOR form of communication in society today. 

4. The Future Trends and Forecasts

Energy has begun taking over fossil fuels and has started being used more.
The government structures are becoming more modern and are about to break free of the industrial-age structures.
Sense of place seems to diminish with time.
Millennials and technology are constantly challenging 20th century legacy thinking
Distance and time are no longer limitations to communication
Populations are expanding past our limit of housing and room in some countries. This will continue to happen and impact other countries.
