Architecture Project: Craeft
Daniel Perez
Throughout the unit, we have expressed our craft and creativity as we create and design buildings fit to our resident and the environment around us. As we learn new skills, such as model building, sketching, and planning our houses, we also become better architects. Here are some projects that I have worked on, and what I wanted to go for. Architecture has taught me so many things, and I'm glad to have been in the class.
Project 1: Bird HouseFor our first project, we had to design and build a bird house (or "Residence" in this case) to fit our appropriate bird. The White-Rumped Sandpiper was the chosed bird, a bird that has a special beak which it uses to "fish" for prey such as small bugs in the sand. Not only was this bird adorable, but it was also unique, which helped the design reflect work and craft. This project was intended to show how different residents can change your design heavily, and how it is important to research and learn your client before planning a house.
The initial parti diagram, showcasing my two best ideas. with feedback from my peers and Dr. Cox, the first design, "Sandpiper Shore", was chosen.

My Client Poster, used to research my bird's activities, diets, and other factors that contributed to my design. The colors were based on the bird's colors, as well as including the main things about the bird such as their diet, predators, and more. since they live in shores, the intended design was going to be on the ground, and since the White-Rumped Sandpiper bird is highly social and small, my design was great for multiple birds without predators causing issues.
To the left: The elevations for my model. Drawn with a black pen and a ruler, the design matches that of the model with a scale of 3 inches equaling 1 foot.

Project 2: Old Alton BridgeThe Old Alton Bridge took it a step further, with a more realistic scenario and more ideas, as well as designs, to work with. This project was a way to test the waters of professional architecture, while also being a way to show creativity and design work. My design intended to fit my client's needs, while also being unique and special, shown by design choices such as the ramp that wraps around, the huge window, and the high 3-story floor.
The client poster I created, which had all the activities as well as personal likings of my client, which reflected the design of the house he would be living in.
