Nordland Square Industrial Garden
My goal was to create a garden that would represent and depict the Industrial Age. I created a top view drawing of the garden, a left-side view of the garden, and a 3-D model of the garden. Before that though, I drafted 2 designs - one of the folly and one of the garden.
My garden represents the division between the poor and upper classes, as seen in the model the upper class section is elevated and the poor section is beyond the stairs. My garden depicts the Industrial Age in a more symbolic way rather than physical because the items and structures designed might not seem like the Industrial Age, but they have a concept tied to them. For example the elevation represents how the upper class would look down on the poor class and always watch upon them.
The folly itself represents the path taken for the people located in the poor class to reach the upper class as a "rags to riches story." The oculus illuminating the stairs represents the path to riches while the oculus illuminating the center represents that the path has being completed and now the upper class section can be seen.
