Oscar Fuentes: Architectural Design I
Project 01: Fibonacci Pavilion
The reasoning behind this project is to project a proportional pavilion with forms and spaces that reflects one of the Olympics sports. We had to choose and Olympic sport and the one that choose was Short Track Speed Skating. Short Track Speed Skating is a competitive ice skating sport. The reason why I chose this sport is because theirs 2 types of Speed Skating and I wanted to know more about the short track one. I found it more dangerous and intense due to its short track and the speed they go to, I also liked the way how they hunch over to keep there speed and momentum. |
Research Project
Olympic Sport: Short Track Speed Skating
Word Drawing
The way how I wanted to show this image is by representing momentum. What I drew in the middle is the track which they go in and I tried showing the tight turns at the end. Also in the middle I wanted to show the packed crowd they have to deal with using triangles. The triangles can also be interpreted as the skates motion or the built up speed skaters have.
The wavy circle parts are there to represent the air movement wile skating

These interpretations of my sport changed how I see speed and momentum, it showed me how these words describe a sport.
Olympic Pictogram Studies
Once again I tried showing momentum but also showing the motion of the skates more that the other one. I liked the idea of the motion of the skates so for the pictogram I wanted to show that but also show the stuff before like air movement, crowded skaters and the short tracks.
Drawing and Model
With everting in mind I sketched all the ideas and made up the the original model
Final Sketchup Model
This is the Final Model of the Project. The main model is red and it has expanded, the front has more stuff because it has more mass due to people being slouched over to keep momentum and all left side is more empty to show the turns they have to do like when you turn you need to put more weight in one side when your going fast.
Project 02: House for an Olympian
In this project we are using Final Sketchup model to make a house for are Olympian. With this we also made a randomized landscape and shuffled it with our classmates to replicate natures randomness.
In this part I tried to look at where would I put an entrance to start out my house and I saw 2 choices, so i experimented with it and decided to put it on the right side of my model due to the fact that the middle of my Fibonacci is more elevated that the rest so with that the entrance is going to have a stair going to that level

Site Plan
This is the landscape that I'm working with, it is randomized so with all the stuff we need to do we had to adapt to it.
The way we started is we drew random line across a paper that had a box perimeter to show the property line and then are classmates pick which one they want and took it. To get the site plan it self we put an image of it onto AutoCAD and traced the lines that would become contour lines. After that we put diffrent layers for the contour line and then laser cut them.
