Helen Wu: Architectural Design I
Project 01: Rural Farmhouse
The original dogtrot house is present in the front of the house, with the central room leading all the way to the back of the house. On one side of that hallway are the bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets, along with a storage room. On the other side are the kitchen, dining room, living room, and mechanical/utilities rooms.

Existing House: Dogtrot
The dogtrot house was originally designed with a open central hallway leading through the entire house. One side of the house was often used a living public space where the cooking, eating and family gatherings would take place. The other side of the house is often private spaces and bedrooms. The central hallway is unique to the dogtrot because it offers a cool breeze, especially during the summer.

Design Development
I used the original dogtrot, however had to expand it to include the everyday rooms that are present in modern houses. I wanted the house to keep the original idea of splitting the house in half between the public and private spaces. Keeping that in mind, i worked with a lot of measurements to try and work that into the design of the house.
Final Drawings and Model
My final project starts in the original dogtrot house with the left side being converted into bedrooms and closets/bathrooms. The other side of the house was converted into a garage. The rest of the right side of the house was made into living spaces. The middle room of the original dogtrot was converted into a hallway
