Max Hankins: Architectural Design ​I

In this project we were tasked with researching thinking, and designing buildings for day laborers. We started by studying day laborers themselves. After that we moved on to the life of day laborers. Than we started designing centers and building for day laborers.

PATIENCE

OPPORTUNISTIC

exploiting chances offered by immediate circumstances without reference to a general plan or moral principle.

WAGE

​a fixed regular payment, typically paid on a daily or weekly basis, made by an employer to an employee, especially to a manual or unskilled worker.

Drawings and Model​

The project started with three models we had to construct. The models had to portray space in some way. They also had to portray a chosen words that associated with day laborers. After that we constructed our final model. (seen below)

Final day labor model

Here we have the final day labor paraline drawing and the physical one. The Day labor center I builts goal was to provide high amounts of shade and have storage, conference rooms, and drive in ports for cars. It was meant to make the process quicker and easier for both groups involved.

Project 2 model sketches/photos

for the sketches (left) I wanted to explore a variety of different designs and ideas. The models (right) were al mostly accurate to the sketches i built them from.

Metal worker collage

For my collage I really wanted show multiple environments in the space instead of a bunch of images put together with no relation. And I think for the most part that was achieved.

Client house site plan

For my clients story I wanted him to be obsessed and devoted to work. I showed this in my site plan by making most of the house a workspace for him. while also keeping the shape of the house relatively simple.
