Irvin Alfaro: Architectural design 1

Project 1: Prairie Pavilion

In the prairie pavilion project we will make a model of a building that will represent the prairie. We will also use our word that we picked and my is boundless. We first do research on prairies and we will try to make our building as close to the prairie as we can. After we do research we start to sketch our ideas and make study models. We come up with a least 3 different ideas and then we pick one for our final model. Now we finish out models and present it to architects.

Research: The Texas Prairie

Boundless

Having no boundaries or limits
Limitless

Without limit

Unlimited

Unbounded

Abundant

The way my word relates to the prairie is how boundless the prairie is. The way i made this was thinking that I shouldn’t use any sharpe or straight lines only round and curved lines to show the flow of the prairie.I wanted to show how boundless the prairie can be and how there is not any boundaries blocking your view. I used circles and arches for this drawing I though that fit best for my word and describing the prairie.

Once I did my research I noticed that it is very open and it’s a huge area of land. Calming is the feeling I got when I think of a prairie. While doing my research that’s the main thing I noticed was hills the prairie has a lot of hills and that why I used circles for my drawing to show the flow of the prairie.

Parti

I started this parti by taking some parts of my drawing and seeing if i could make a building out of it. I chose this shape because it is round and  it shows the flow of the prairie.

Final model

My final model as made from my parti drawing. I put both of my model ideas into one building. I used museum board for my final model.

Project 2: Air BNB

Sketches for air BNB : These are the first sketches I made for my design. My idea was to make the building camouflage with the prairie so I made a grass like design but it didn't go with my word boundless. I then thought about how to make a building "boundless", so I made my building with not a lot of walls.

Floor plan/ Elevations : My floor plan doesn't have a lot of walls because I felt like adding walls would have made the building not seem boundless. The roof was made to make the the building camouflage with the prairie. Most of the walls are glass so you can see into the prairie and feel like you are still in the prairie.

Site plan

This site plan shows how high and low the land is. My model was made on the lower side so the roof can blend into the nature around it.

These are my study models. My idea was to make a building that would camouflage in the prairie. So my idea was to make the roof of my building look like a hill in the prairie. The biggest problem was how to put the roof on the building.

This is my final model. For my roof I added this grass on top so it could camouflage into the prairie. I made my building to feel like you are still in the prairie. The inside only has walls for the bathroom and the private rooms. The reason its made like this is so the building feels boundless.
