Project 01: Dallas Museum of Painting
For this project we started by doing an architectural painting analysis exercise. We had to analysis the characteristics of a painting then draft 4 of those characteristics onto another sheet. I choose to analyze Pablo Picasso's House on the Hill, and the characteristics I drafted were line, shapes, shadows, and background. Once I had completed my four characteristics, I went on to drawing a section for the painting. This exercise helped us understand the depth and space of a 2-dimensional painting.
Next, we started the rest of the project. We were given our site in Dallas, Texas, which was located in the neighborhood of Deep Ellum by highways 75 and 67. The project was to transform the existing building of Life in Deep Ellum into a public art museum, educational facility, and research institute. |

For my final concept, I added another floor to increase the square footage of the museum. This allowed me to put another exhibit in the museum, that way I could have two traveling exhibits on the lower floor and a permanent collection on the top floor. On the front two walls, where parking is located, I changed the walls to be glass with walls set behind. On those walls would be street art created by the local street artists; this displays a part of Deep Ellum culture as a piece of art. Located on the first floor is the lobby with an information desk, restrooms, and a museum gift shop; two traveling exhibits; and the employee area with an office area, loading deck, and conservation room. In one of the traveling exhibits, glass stairs that lead to the permanent collection upstairs. On this floor, there is also a hallway where local artists can display their work for sale. From here there is access to an outdoor area.
