Architectural Design II: Project 01
Project Brief
Throughout history, women have made significant contributions and impacts to our society. However, many times they aren't recognized for their work or success. By examining monuments and memorials, we are able to remember these figures and all of their contributions. The project assigned this semester was to create a memorial and foundation for an impactful female figure who has passed. The goal is to honor them, their work, their achievements, and their contributions to society. The female I chose was Florence Nightingale. Nightingale was a well respected combat nurse, a pioneer in modern nursing, and a true symbol of kindness and compassion.
Client Concept
We were first tasked to create a client concept for our figure. Mine being Florence Nightingale, I wanted to highlight her nursing work and background. I added the Big Ben clocktower showing she is from the United Kingdom. It felt necessary to include her home country since that is where she not only grew up, but also did most of her work and had most of her achievements. The biggest thing I wanted to highlight was the invention of her own graph. The graph is called a "Florence Nightingale Graph". This was revolutionary due to it being easy to create and its ability to convey so much information. The graph was originally created as an easy way to keep track of the mortalities during the Crimean War.
