Project 01: Prairie pavilion
When we started researching about what the Texas prairie
was about and look like, right away I realized in any picture you find, it was very open and seem with a bunch of space. In the project, it asks us to create a building that described the prairie. The way I decided to describe what it was for me or look for me was with the word "AIRY." Meaning that I wanted to create a space mainly with a lot of windows, big spaces, two floors, balconies, and patios. My goal was that when you enter the house, there was two types of rooms. The ones with a bunch of light and others complete dark. The purpose with the ones with light were the meaning of the prairie being very large and free with the help of the windows & the purpose of the dark ones was that when you got out of them, the balconies or patios would be right there making you feel the breeze and spacious of it. Making you feel the environment or meaning way more. |
Research: The Texas prairie
My word drawing relates to the landscape by describing how open and flowy the land is. While creating my drawing, I had some struggles. Write the rules and restrictions we had; it was kind of hard having an idea that would work out. While making it, it was hard creating the positive and negative spaces that would make it describe the landscape. Basically, my drawing is bubbles flowing around the page, so it would describe the prairie of being very "AIRY".
A Texas Prairie Pavilion
Parti
5While drawing my parti studies, I had a couple ideas, but I didn't know how to rearrange them. It was a bit interesting how to make a shape with my word drawing due to that they were circles, so I change most of the negative spaces to positive so I could have bigger range of options. I made five options from what I could use, I tried choosing something that will look modern and give the impression of the word I choose too.
Final drawing and module
while doing my three models, I tried making different ideas with the same concept. I made all of them two floors, with patios and many circle windows. My first one was two patios on each side and the house in the middle with two floors, on my second was no patios and two floor and, the last one was like a combination of the first and second one. It was a one floor building, with a deck on top and a patio on the side. for my final model, I kind of combine all of them three. It is two floors with many windows and patios on each side as well as balconies on each side. I wanted to create a building that was very spacious, with a bunch of light and windy in a way. Which means it wouldn't matter in what floor you were, the feeling would be the same.
Project 2: Air BnB
Create an AIR BnB that would make them disconnect from the outside world and really feel the environment.
Parti Diagram & Sketch
Sketch concept - had a few ideas but was not convinced on what I really wanted to do; I also made a list of all the requirements they had so I could have both. How it would describe my word and have what they ask for. I was sure I wanted a L shape and a roof deck on the second floor but had trouble figuring out what would match the best.
Floor Plan :
On my floor plan, I try making it very spacious. On the first floor you have the basic that a house needs, you have the living room, kitchen, and a full bathroom. on the second one, is more private, you have the two rooms and the roof deck. On the first floor my idea was when they would open all the glass sliding door, it would create an effect on the top floor like if it was floating. on the second one it was you would get another feeling of the place because it was up, and the rooms would also have a lot of open spaces.

Final model
My final model was the exact thing as my study models just that i change how i wanted the stairs to be and decided where i wanted the windows and doors to be as well. I wanted my model to give you a sense of very open and wide. That no matter what floor you where you got the same feeling. I also wanted to include all what they ask for but not distracting the main purpose of making it mean my word.
