Project 01: Artist Retreat

Artist Retreat home is to create a house for a living artist that is involved with work within the landscape and surroundings. This project is supposed to give the artist a place to go when they need to relax and get inspiration. My artist is Mary Miss, for her I wanted to give her a house that was simplistic yet organic when it came to shapes, I wanted to incorporate curves for the exterior so I did for the roof to give it a new feel and so that she could explore the building around her.
Project Research: Mary Miss
For the research regarding Mary Miss I wanted to keep focus on all the,
colors she used in most of her works such as in battery park and many more. I wanted to give her a house that related to her work style and personality traits, as well as incorporating the many curves and organic shapes she uses. I wanted to represent her in a new way that you could
see her without me having to say her name directly.

Final Design: |
For my Design Process I was thinking of having something that would be simple yet different. I wanted a basic design element that incorporated Mary Miss's curves, along with a design that would serve for what the project is based on; a retreat that she could almost remove herself from the world and see the view of the Great North Woods along with much more. This would allow her to gather inspiration and take a break from NYC, and relax in a more urbanized area.

This is my Floor Plan and Elevation, I decided to keep them both on the same paper for reference from the Elevation to the Floor Plan or vise-versa, I decided to keep my house simplistic yet unique and abstract in it's own way along with the interior keeping it small and yet spacious.
For my final model I used foam core for the exterior of the home and for the roof I used museum board to allow for the flexibility of my curved roof at an angle. As you can see on my final model I have a wall that extends out like a front porch similar to the one I roughly sketched out on my preliminary work, it would have a swing in front as well to give Mary Miss another working space. |
Project 02: Global Makerspace
GLOBAL CULTURE 3D PRINT

CULTURE WORD [RELIGION] :
Religion can signify and mean many things, many of which are, peace, having a sense of hope towards something supernatural you can't see, but it brings a homey feel. For my word I decided to explore around a bit yet keep it simple enough to allow for that home-like feel. The building I decided to go with for this word was a Church I used this because many people interpret Religion as being a broad community where there is Global Culture incorporated within. I felt that a Church would be the best way to express, a community from all over the world with something they share in common, from it being beliefs and a common hangout. |
Project Brief: First Thoughts
Our project was solemnly based on our ideas and what we could interpret , we were given the task of deciding ourselves of where this project would turn out to be with only having one prerequisite before hand which was having the question answered within our work - We live in an age of global communication, culture, and work. How can architecture express these conditions while allowing all of us to adapt and thrive?- Our thriving question was the only thing that was there to guide us on this journey of having the "perfect" Makerspace built for a world involved with diversity and many cultures.
My initial thoughts for this project was where would this take us? We knew so little about the actual outcome that it was hard to know what to expect, we were supposed to come up with a culture based Work Place for a whole community of diverse people from all over the world to come to one place and feel like home. I was honestly not sure how any of it would turn out, but wherever it may have ended I knew my team would be there.

Final Design
For our final design, located on the coast of Belize Mexico we intended to create a place for creativity and collaboration while still having the comfort of a home. The site is focused not only on the coast but also on the thousands of feet spread across our community spaces intended for a break of work and to enjoy the views. Our inspiration for all of this came from an egg, the yolk would be the center of attention (makerspace) and the egg whites the elevation and the bleed through of them would be the villas.
