Daniela Vargas: Architectural Design I
Project 01: Prairie Pavilion
In this project, we focused on studying and learning about the Texas landscape. While researching for the first time about this topic, the first things that I noticed about this type of land were that it helps the region to bring strong economic growth, cultural diversity, and natural beauty. Conservation biologists are trying to restore some of the prairies that wildlife depend upon for survival, which means it is an important part of Texas.

Research of the Texas prairie
Word Drawing
When I think of the Texas prairie, I can see the word “amiable” expressed in the large areas. Amiable is a word that is often used to describe a kind and homesick feeling…That is what I wanted to communicate. I believe we all can agree that one of the shapes that transmit warmness and a relaxed emotion is circles. However, circles are not all that I wanted to do. I wanted an equilibrium. That is how after trying different styles, combinations, and patterns of shapes, is how I ended up with the final result.

Study Models:
|
D3 was a model I was not planning on making. It doesn’t have a bubble diagram nor plan. I wanted to do a one-floor building. In the first sketches I made, D3 was part of D2 as a second part of the same building. However, I feel like it was unnecessary since the original building was already big. |
So far this has been my favorite design. With D2 I wanted to create something that contained various shapes. I tried getting out of my comfort zone. I liked the main wall because it is inspired by the prairie hills, that’s why its curved shape.

Final Model:
In the model we can now appreciate the main attraction: the round front window. The entrance of the house it’s at the back. Besides the main window, there are other six around the building. Two at the west side. Two in the East Side, and two at the back.
