Practicum II: Independent Study
Garrett Chavers
Growing up, I loved art. I scribbled comics in my spare time, and took every opportunity to doodle, paint, or sculpt. As I got older, I began to drift away from drawing, but architecture has rekindled my passion for art.
I plan on attending Texas Tech after I graduate in May, where I'll continue my education in architecture and design, and study a minor in business. But before that, I'm going to finish my design for an observatory in the Zion National Park, Utah.

Growing up I was always extremely observant and curious, and I was consistently taking things apart, only to turn around and immediately put it back together in hopes to discover they work. All throughout my school career, there has never been another class that exercised my perfectionism or that I poured more energy into than art class. After taking both these factors into account, architecture is really the only answer.
After this, my next step will be to pursue my architectural career by majoring in architecture at either the University of Arkansas or UTA.

From an early age I knew what the people in my family were doing for a living, whether it was engineering, construction management, or home renovating. So when I hit freshman year it was the obvious choice to take architecture and engineering to see which one I liked. 4 years later and I've taken every class available to me to continue my architecture career.
I have chosen to attend Texas Tech to get a Masters in Architecture and a MBA, with the hope to be able to open my own architecture firm somewhere off in the future given time. But for now I will be working on my project here which is subdivision planning and custom home designing.
