Reagan Baird : Architecture 1 - Project 1
For this project I was tasked with creating a backyard cottage for a stained glass artist. I wanted to include large windows to represent the stained glass and how it interacts with light. I was also interesting in exploring the idea of bubbles and rounded shapes to represent how melted glass behaves.
Schematic Design
In this design I was focusing on the bubble idea for the shape of the room. I also added large windows throughout the house.
Final Design
In this design I added a courtyard with a path from the driveway. I made the kitchen island very bubbly. I also added a walk in pantry with built in cabinets. I modeled my design with museum board but it wasn't able to show the finer details, colors, and materials, so I modeled my design as closely as I could in a video game that I play. This digital model shows colors, and materials used, as well as exterior landscaping, basic suggestions for furniture placements, and lighting fixtures.
Project 2
For this project, we were tasked with building a home for a craftsman on, around, or under the Old Alton Bridge.
Concept Design
In the concept on the right, I decided to fully include the metal framing as part of the design. I included a grass covered roof with a garden and seating area. I made a path down to the water with a small dock. in front of the house, there is a winding path with lots of plants and a few trees.
On the left, I decided to maintain the angle of the framework on either end of the house and use a triangle to represent the triangular framing without it being a full design element. I also maintained the same angle of the framing throughout the roof of the house. In this design I used many stained-glass windows and woodworking to represent craft.
Final Design
In the design I chose to go with the walls are fairly tall so I added lots of floor to ceiling built in cabinets with a ladder that you can roll between different sections so you can reach the top. these cabinets are in the kitchen, workshop, and workshop storage room for maximum storage for food, tool, and supplies. I made sure to include a sink and a separate storage room for the workshop. I utilized every space I could to maximize room inside the house because of how narrow the bridge was. The many windows would have stained glass details that had pictures related to the history of the bridge and the surrounding area.
