PRODJECT PHASE I: MASTER PLAN
PM Practicum Studio: Gael Guardado, Filza Lalani, Arabella Massey
Pre Project Craft Overview
Initially we began the project studying our own interpretations of cræft, identifying what it means to us through the creation of a craft collage.
After we found our own interpretations we united under one definition; An activity involving EXPERT skill in making FUNCTIONAL OBJECTS by hand. Using this definition we investigated our assigned architects to create a digital collage representing how they show cræft in their work.
Phase 1 Project Overview
To begin phase 1 of the project, our team was tasked to design a contemporary campus that teaches craftsmanship while combining the digital tools of the future. The site was located in an undeveloped area along Hickory Creek in Denton County, Texas. The campus will provide a space where individuals of varying skill levels, can live, learn, and work in a community-focused environment. Phase I of the project will focus on creating a comprehensive master plan for the college campus, which will include housing, academic buildings, and public spaces.
Site Analysis
The site analysis for the Cræft College project is an important step in understanding the context, challenges, and opportunities of the location. This analysis will inform all aspects of the design, from the master plan to individual building placement, and ensure that the project is rooted in its environment. Some characteristics of the site that we analyzed were near by roads and buildings, topography and terrain, climate and environmental conditions, and potential patterns in movement.

Campus Master Plan Design
3D Model |
Big ideasWe created three buildings for each of the PAD students, Culinary, Textiles, and Metalworking and for each subject we needed a Faculty building and a Student housing. This is along side the Deans residence.
The campus is organized radially, notably each of our different subjects buildings are grouped together. This was done to create a stronger connection between the student and their craft, encouraging them to generate more hours in their respective education buildings. Along side that We designed our campus with this idea of separation of private and public spaces, from the center outward going more public, accumulating to the left side of the campus and general edge with the public space and river walk respectively.
