The Investigation Of Craeft: A brief overview about craeft is understanding what can be created by using technique, interpretation, and personal ideas.
The Initial Investigation
When collaging I made sure to place my understanding of what craeft meant to me,in my opinion, craeft is seen as being able to create art by our ideas, and make it into something unique. Culture plays a big role into what craeft is define as, so I made sure to demonstrate it onto my collage, also while placing bright drawings to make the page stand out. Using different images to create an illusion of something that was simply not there before. The goal was to show how time has changed, from using columns to sustain buildings to now having modern houses. Its amusing to see how we adapt to time and culture and continue to use craeft to create art.
Architecture Investigation
We were asked to do research on an architect and analyze how they use craeft in there designs. My research was on Lake Flato, they did most of their practice in Texas and from what I've understood they work to not disturb the land but rather adapt to it and use the tools around it. Made sure to use pieces of images that best correspond to craeft and how these architects use it, Lake Flato invents unique buildings that work well with the environment. Instead of damaging and changing the landscape he works with it, for example they designed a house that would be standing on top of a slope, creating the illusion that the building was meant to stand their in the first place.

Wunderkammer Design
Wunderkammer is a German word meaning "room of curiosities" which to have a better understanding .
Wunderkammer Model
|
Students were assigned to select a craeft and to build it from scratch, demonstrating their understanding of craeft and the material they have chosen. After research I wanted to reflect how metal can be viewed from different angles. When working with metal it can be molded to shapes such as spheres or curves or a firmer solid shape, such as creating a light delicate or heavy and dark object. That's why in my model I decided to add a clock that function due to metal gears to an electrical tower. The fact a harsh material such as metal can create somethin beautiful is what I wanted to present on my model. After working on the model each student worked on creating a "studio" where a singular student could work in considering on what material the student had selected. The type of jobs that imply working with metal would be welding, blacksmithing, and jewelry making. Which is why the jobs that include working with heavy materials would be downstairs with enough room to work in without getting hurt and be able to transfer materials in. Also keeping a section where they can store items and have a place where air circulation can flow in which is why I provided a room where they can work outdoors.

Concept Idea
We were to sketch 24 shapes to inspire us to build our model building and then select five out of all to then narrow it down to one that we could work with and progress from it. Which is the drawn more detailed and given more information. Through out the weeks we'd have discussions on how to grow from our drawings o then create a building where students can live in.
During the second nine weeks we were assigned to design buildings that were inspired by the parti drawing that we have selected. When looking over the partí designs I’ve selected one that most resembled the craeft of metal work. As I was studying about metal work it came to my attention that most buildings that are used for metal work are spacious and usually scare like building, so when seeing that I wanted to add my own touch to make it look slightly more interesting to the eye.
Building Layouts
When drawing each levels floor plans I’ve tried to make each level different from the other. Experimenting how I could create enough space for the dorms and hallways as in above, also creating an environment for where students can enjoy time with friends and family that come to visit. The main attraction would be an elongated hallway with pillars giving the impression of sustaining the glass windows, creating a form of transparency.
Final Models
Students were required to use Revit to create there models and to have an idea how there models would look realistically. In this case I've decided to include storefront windows to make it look more spacious and be able to let natural sunlight into the buildings and using smaller windows for the dorms knowing students would want less sunlight so they could sleep in after a long day in class or at the studio.
Finally after working on our floor plans and models we come across the final product showing the model in different directions. After many hours of work placed onto this project I present a model that would be for college students to dorm in and an area where they would study or lounge in. This model would be facing the river so the students could have a good view of the outdoors and hopefully feel the sensation of relaxation and leisure.
