CRAFT INVESTIGATION: TEXTILE
Craft definition
When we were first given the question what is craft I had thought of it being something human made, made with human creativity skill and thought.

When I put this collage together, I kept in mind things that were made by someone and not by a machine whether it was food art or jewelry.
ARCHITECTS
With the definition of craft now defined, we needed to study architects and how they used craft in there works.
While I was studying the architects Shim-Sutcliffe, and their works. Their projects are strictly in Canada. While I looked at their works I noticed that they in cooperate the environment and embed it with the building instead of just flatting out the entire space. Their projects also all are near water or include water in them. Also, with what i noticed is angles and that depending where you stand is what you see, and every angle is different.

STEP ONE: STUDYING A CRAFT
Craft: Textiles
Visual of Textiles
While looking at textiles I realized that it was a very broad and wide category and I had to narrow it down, so I decided to focus on more fashion and wearable forms of it like shows dresses and clothes. In my collage it shows thing needed to make said craft and example of what textile is and what I was focusing on.
STEP TWO: CREATING A STUDIO
The building and floor planWhen designing the building I wanted it to be flowy and natural like clothes or fabric would be. I end up making it represent a piece of cloth. The view would be a dull building and then a stripe of stained-glass to represent how clothes brighten our moder and past society. I also wanted furniture on the inside to show the movement of fabric which that could be wavy or straight and stiff.

STEP THREE: BIG DRAWING
Explanation

This assignment was to create a large drawing of what would represent your craft and building. When i was making it i wanted to add a splash of color while the rest was in grey or black to show how clothes brought color to our world. I drew and colored stained glass because it was also apart of my building design. I added an old chandelier and an old sewing machine to represent that clothes and textile has been apart of human culture for a long time. And i added the oldest dress to ever be found and another equally as old one.
LAST: MODEL

the instructions to make this model were similar to the drawing, to represent your craft and what it takes to do it. in my model I used things that are made from textile and tools to make it like pins a sewing machine a Maquiné scissors etc. I also added tings from my building like the stain glass. also, I inserted items made from the craft a dress lace ribbon fabric and shoes.
TEXTILE FACULTY HOUSING
For our next part of our project, we had to either design a student dorm or faculty housing in our building we had to represent our craft into the design.
Step One: Parti Ideas
Step Two: Development
while designing the building I simplified the shapes and mellowed them out, and I decided to figure out how I would keep the layering so I stacked the building on top of one another. For the design I wanted the, all to be unique to represent all the different materials of textile, I still wanted the shapes to have the same harsh edges an soft curves.
Step Three: Design
For my design i wanted to have them all have different textures and designs to show the different textiles and types of textiles, anther part that we had to think about was sustainable living, to incorporate this i added two green roofs on the bottom and middle house. I made the green roofs accessible, with pathways to avoid stepping on the flora and plants.
Step Four: Refinement and Final Renders
After deciding on what we were going to do, we had to schematic designs and figure out how we would make the rest the site and where the building would fit. during this I left the idea of making them all different martials and textures, I wanted to add the color by having every house have a mosaic pattern to represent textiles in their own unique way. I also made all the windows circles and different shapes and heights to represent sequence or buttons.

For my design of the textile faculty housing, I decided to go a less grand and bold. I wanted to show textiles in a more subtle way because the faculty are more settled down and stable in life then someone whose fresh out of high school or in the prime of their life. To add color, I went with mosaic style for all buildings all with different patterns that represent different things. The stacking of the building also has meaning to show the ways that textiles are layered or overlapped. The site also has many areas to be able to enjoy outside space. Two of the building also have green roofs, to decrease the amount of environment that was displaced because of the building, and to have the building almost blend in with the ground and area.

Step Five: Final Model
Step Six: Presentation
For our final part we had to make a presentation board with all the important information and what we deemed necessary, I add all my renderings floor plans and Parti's, I added a description a definition for Architectual words or phrases. this would be one of our main or the main part of our setup during our exhibition.
