CRAFT: The hands on experience of making something thoughtful and skillful.
OLD ALTON BRIDGE: BIRD HOUSE
The old Alton birdhouse house was created to be a house for a specific type of bird. Mine being the Nashville Warbler created a small and low set house for the warbler with a small perch on the top for the bird to sing, hints warbler. The house has small enough spaces for the warbler to live but also keep predator's like opossums out. The house's unfamiliar shape and smaller crevasses allow for prey to inhabit and act as a natural self replenishing food system for the birds. Craft was used in this project by acknowledging the needs of my client and building something that my client, Nashville Warbler, can live and thrive in.
BUTTER PAPER: This was an early process of making the Nashville warblers house. I drafted two ideas and the one that was picked and modified was the one on you see on the right. On the second butter paper sketches was to get the concept what what i was going to build and finally build my practice my practice model. PRACTICE MODEL: My practice model was the first model I had created and there was still some tweaking I had to make to it but it led me to creating my final model. FINAL MODEL:After taking off extra pieces and things the warbler didn't need, I finalized the the final model and moved on to start a floor plan. FLOOR PLAN: The floor plan has an empty exterior but small, perfect to accommodate the nest for the small warbler. ELEVATIONS AND PARTI: These are the final elevations of my clients house is allows you to see the details of the residence, perch, small crevices(for the small bugs and other prey),and nesting area. The parti is meant to show the top view of the house BIRD POSTER: The Nashville warblers client poster/Bird poster is the the inspiration for the model. The client poster shows what the warblers predators, diet, and nesting are and what they look like. The poster also includes a picture of my client.
OLD ALTO BRIDGE: DEANS RESIDENCE
The Dean's residence was supposed to reflect CRAFT (the hands on experience of making something thoughtful and skillful) and in using craft I carefully contemplated the elevations of my client, Dean, and what would suit their needs the best. My client has a family of four so I built in one master bedroom and two kids bedrooms. She also is a part time culinary influencer which is why I added a commercial sized kitchen and a wall of windows facing it so that the natural light can pour into the room and create a more balanced light exposure for the cameras.
SITE PLAN: The site plan shows the roof coverage/birds eye view of the house and were it is located on the bridge. FINAL POSTER: The final poster is what put I together to display my work. This includes my floor plan, elevations, client poster, and site plan. CLIENT POSTER/COLLAGE: My client poster is a collage of ideas on a single page that represent the general idea of what my residence would look like interior and exterior wise.
