Project 01- Alvar Aalto, Experimental House
Concept Drawing- Alvar Aalto

Alvar Aalto is well known for the Savoy Vase and his functionalism in his Architecture. A great example of which is his Experimental Home that was meant to be self sustaining. The Paimio Sanatorium built for medical procedures post-war. The Church of Assumption with it's high wide windows and etc... . This Concept is meant to convey his functionalism and unique approach.
"Experimental House" Description
The Experimental House gets it's name from it's experimental elements; Heating, Cooling, Energizing, etc... Alvar Aalto built this home secluded on Muuratsolo Island in lake Päijänne, Finland. He started design and construction after the passing of his first wife and was a cabin he and his second wife would use until his death in 1976. The House uses stable solar heating and lighting, a large three-pane window facing the private courtyard. Vents bringing in cool air from the the low earth, and a dock for the boat used to get to and from the mainland.
Experimental House Analysis
Project 1A- Container Cabin
The purpose of this project was to convey spacial awareness in a long-narrow space, and how we would arrange necessary spaces for livability.
Project 02: SPACEform House
The prompt for this project was to create a house designed around a word we were assigned, mine being "linear", and to create client narrative also around aforementioned word. This all said, our only constrains and guidelines were the word and the lot space we had to work with. And as you can imagine a linear house plan on a long and thin lot works out perfect.
